Top trend in 2017 -The Enhanced Connectivity

Da Nang, Nha Trang in Vietnam; Takamatsu, Ishigaki, Nagoya, Kagoshima in Japan... These places might sound unfamiliar to you in the past years. However, due to the rapid growth in Regional low-cost carriers, there are more and more new routes, especially going to secondary destinations, are added by different airline companies.

According to William D. Chalmers, over ten thousands of new routes have been added over the past decade. There are 1,280 international airports to serve 48,977 routes worldwide as of 2016. In this way, what is the benefit of adding different new routes?

First of all, it can ease the supply of international airports. In the past time, when people want to travel to Japan, they will go to Tokyo and Osaka, it generates the problem of demand larger than supply. Thus they cannot easily buy an air ticket and the air ticket price would be increased. By adding new routes to secondary destinations, it provides more choices to tourists, and also stimulates the economy of these places.

Secondly, it shortens the time to travel to secondary destinations. In previous decade, going to secondary destinations required people to connect their flight to transfer to the final destination. By having more new routes to different places, we can now go anywhere within a day. It enhances the business cooperation in these regions as well. Thus, GDP will be increased.

Learning reflection

Travelling has become a hit trend in Hong Kong these years, especially for teenagers. I have also travelled for 3 times in last summer, in which I have chosen the cheap flight airline company as well. I used to be very confused that why could the price of this cheap flight airline company can be so low. However, after I have finished this wiki, I understood that the enhanced connectivity is one of the reason to explain this phenomenon! I do hope that more and more low-cost carriers would be launched so that we can travel to more and more places all over the world!
