Have you guys ever entered a casino before? Although Hong Kong is very near to Macau geographically, I believe that not many of us have even got a chance to enter the casino, due to the age limit. According to VP communications Inc. and Peter D. Hart, the top five favourite casino games are Slots, Blackjack, Roulette, Poker and Craps. In the following time, we would like to introduce these all games to you! Let’s take a look!

1. Black Jack

Blackjack, which is also called as 21 Points, is a card game played between the dealer and the player. This game is aiming at getting a sum or as near as possible of 21 points. At first, the dealer will distribute two cards to each player, and also the dealer himself. The dealer will have one card face up and one card face down. Then, the game will begin by asking each player do they want to add more cards one by one, so as to get close to 21 points, but not getting over 21. Aces in this game are equal to 1 or 11. A player may also call double, which means doubling their bet and could receive one card only. Then, their turn ends. Player can split their cards if two cards are the same. After all players turns are over, the dealer reveals their card. It is a must for dealer to hit id they got less than or equal to 16 points, and if they got more than or equal to 17 points, the have to stand. Players who has finished their turn that beats the dealer without exceeding 21 points will win the game.

2. Craps

Craps is a dice game. Based on the roll’s outcome, a number of rolls of a pair of dice will influence players to make a different wagers. In the game, the shooter will win if a seven or eleven turn up on the first roll of the dice, whatever they bet. Moreover, if the shooter rolls two, three, or twelve on the first roll, they will lose all their money bet, but not losing the dice. Also, when a player or shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, that number will become their “point”. In this case, the shooter needs to keep rolling until they can roll their “point” again for a win, or until another person throws a seven and loses both the money and the dice.

3. Roulette

In roulette, chips will be placed on the table where the players would like to wager. Number 0-36 and 00 will be presented on the table, additional betting will be even-odd, low 18-high 18, red-black, low or middle or high 12 and the 1/2/3 columns. A player may also place their bet between 2, 3, 4, or 5 numbers. They can cross bet between the additional betting areas as well. The dealer will give signal to players if there is no more bets. Then, the dealer will spin the wheel in a clockwise direction, then roll a ball in an anti-clockwise direction. After the ball has stopped rolling and landed in a numbered slot on the wheel, players’ bets that is corresponding to the numbered slot will win the game.

4. Slots

Slot is a popular casino gambling machine. It is embedded with three or more wheels. The player inserts coins into the machine and pull the handle or press the button together in order to cause the wheels to spin. If the item in each wheel forms a specific patterns, like three bananas, the player is paid and wins the game.

5. Poker

​Poker is card game. At the beginning, each player have 5 cards on hand. They have to see whether they can form a specific pattern or a combination. The ranking sequence of hands from the lowest to the highest is high card, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush and royal flush. The player who has the best hand wins the game.

6. Bingo

Each player is given a play card containing squares in a 5 x 5 matrix. Each square represents a letter or anything about the game theme. The game holder then calls out a thing one by one. If that thing is found in the play card, the player can cross out the corresponding square until forming a straight line. For instance, the entire row has been crossed out. The player should then call out 'Bingo!' . The holder checks the accuracy and the announce the winner. A new round then begins.

Learning Reflection

We have learnt various casino games in the lecture and researches and thus finally realize why casinos are so popular among adults. Besides providing a relaxing and delighting place for people to enjoy and experience different challenging and exciting games, they have a chance to gather with different friends and earn money. However, it is not encouraged that people spend a lot of time. If they are able to make a balance between work and play, we do support it.
